Martin F. Schmidt
Collection of Kentucky Views. Martin F. Schmidt developed this
collection of engravings and lithographs over nearly fifty years. Some were
issued individually as prints, others were found in various periodicals and
books. The collection documents Kentucky printed illustrations beginning in the
late eighteenth century and flourishing through the nineteenth century. Topics
include the Civil War in Kentucky, transportation, natural landmarks, city
views, and significant individuals, institutions, churches, and businesses.
Many of the views were published in Schmidt's "Kentucky Illustrated: The First
Hundred Years," published by the University Press of Kentucky in 1992.
